WATER SAMPLING PROCEDURE
1.Use clean, sterile plastic, or glass sample bottles, which will hold at least one cup of water. Bottles are available upon request.
2.For Coliform, TCE, VOC, Arsenic, and Lead, special bottles are required and may be obtained from our office by uest.
3.A representative sample should be taken. Make sure your fingers, faucet, or anything else does not contaminate the water sample. Do not touch the inside of the sample bottle/bag.
4.Any sampling method not conforming to the ones below should be noted.
5.Samples for testing Phosphorus and metals should be preserved.
6.Follow the steps below.
FOR WELLS
A.Let water run for 5-10 minutes. During this time open and close the tap
several times.
B.Hand pumps should be operated 15-20 minutes slowly and regularly.
C.A second sampling is necessary with dry wells. Completely empty the well, refill it with ground water, and then take the second sample.
D.Keep sample cool (4 C) until analyzed.
FOR TREATMENT PLANT OPERATION
A.Usually hourly samples taken for 24 hours with an amount of 2-3 L of water is sufficient.
B.When hourly samples are not possible, 2-3 hour samplings should be taken.
C.Keep sample cool (4 C) until analyzed.
